The Eurasier Breed

Origin

The Eurasier originates from Germany. It is a breed that was purposefully developed in the 1960s.

History

In 1960, Professor Julius Wipfel, in collaboration with other breeders, began crossing the Chow-Chow with the Wolfspitz (Keeshond). The result of this cross was a breed originally called "Wolf-Chow." Later, the Samoyed was added to the breeding program to broaden the genetic base and improve the breed's characteristics. In 1973, the breed was officially recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) under the name Eurasier - the name refers to the European and Asian origins of the breed's ancestors.

Appearance

The Eurasier is a harmoniously built, medium-sized spitz-type dog. It is characterized by erect ears, a dense coat, and an elegant appearance. All colors and color combinations are permitted except pure white, white patches, and liver color.

Temperament

The Eurasier is a self-confident, calm, and balanced dog with a high threshold of excitability. It is watchful and has a strong bond with its family. It is reserved with strangers but without any aggression. It has no hunting instinct, making it an ideal companion for families. The Eurasier is not suited for kennel life - it needs close contact with its family.
